Community Support Fund 2017-2018

Summary of CSF Task Force Activities for 2017-2018

Through CCC, the CSF task force distributed 200 dispensas.   Many dispensas were given on a bi-monthly basis to families of cancer patients who were selected by Yolanda, the local area cancer support volunteer, creating relationships!

Each month Yolanda is given a 500 peso stipend to enable her to carry out the work she does as the local area cancer support person.  Each week she visits several local communities to fund-raise and to check with cancer patients who are in need of support.

The CSF task force was pleased to be able to ‘adopt’ a student in the Becas for Barras program which offers scholarships to needy students so that they can continue their education beyond grade 9.  The cost to offer a scholarship is $15,000 pesos.  The student and their parents must comply with the regulations set by the Becas program.

At a meeting with the director of education and the president of the municipality the task force learned that individual school supplies are now provided by the state and municipal governments.   However, with what had been collected this winter, in early March, school supplies for students were presented to several small elementary schools and kindergarten programs in the municipality.  For the following year (2018-2019) the task force encourages donors to provide electric or durable manual pencil sharpeners for classroom use.

During this past church season, the CSF task force has promoted the work of Estancia Infantil La Pequena Casita de Belen (day care) in Cihuatlan.  This daycare centre caters to child care needs of single parents and field workers.  It receives minimal funding from the federal government.  The CCC community has willingly and generously supported the daycare with donations of money and items.  The task force is impressed with the love and care shown in the program at this daycare centre.

Clothing Distribution

  • Throughout the church season, the task force
  • collected clothing and miscellaneous items
  • for the big give-away event held on March 24.
  • Tickets were distributed to needy families in the
  • Melaque and Barra areas which were then
  • redeemed at the event held at the church.
  • Over 30 volunteers helped out on the big day
  • when about 150 happy people came to ‘shop’.

May the work that was undertaken this past year be pleasing to God.
